We empower people & communities by telling their stories through art to inspire social change.

Help us fund the Human Thesis: Afghan Stories project

We are currently working on the Human Thesis: Afghan Stories project - hand-woven stories of enduring human displacement. A multidisciplinary art project that aims to express past and ongoing displacement experienced by people of Afghanistan. The project is developed based on three fundamental principles co-developed with the community: Home, Freedom and Diversity of Experience.

You can join our journey and become a change maker by helping us raise $30,000 to fund the project or donate directly. Together – we can create a more compassionate, connected & equitable society.

The stories are shared collectively as a family or a group, where a hand-made sculpture of each person or group is created with woven stories and experiences of enduring human displacement.

The aim is to provide a voice for those who have been displaced, build solidarity, create a pathway for healing and generate awareness amongst non-Afghan people.

We have completed the pilot project funded by the City of Whittlesea and self-funded the first sculpture of the project. We are now working towards a large installation combining wire-sculptures, photography, videography, digital art and performance art to be exhibited in late 2023.

Through inspiring art projects, ONDRU gives a voice to those often left silent, unheard or misunderstood.

Ondru is a Melbourne-based, non-profit, humanitarian organisation striving for a more connected, compassionate and equitable society. Our projects invite deeper inquiry into issues of social injustice and provide a voice to the voiceless. Each project attempts to build a sense of community and bring light to issues that remain in the dark.

Our Projects

Our projects have explored the issues of identity & displacement, health & well being, homelessness, war & violence, and Indigenous issues.

Art forms such as photography, theatre, dance, film, music, sculpture, poetry, and digital and public art installations have been applied to bring these issues to light.

The intention behind our work is to evoke thought, provoke feelings and inspire action for positive change on issues of social injustice.

We have conducted our works in Melbourne, Sydney, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and parts of Africa, and we are always exploring new possibilities.
